ORIGIN STORY

One December morning, about a decade ago, (in a land far far away...in Goleta) Melinda, future founder of The Crumberie, had the grandiose notion to bake 12 Christmas cookies in 12 days. She was successful in completing this marathon of baking and for some reason it just stuck. Year after year she would continue to find new cookies along with some core favorites to bake for her family as a holiday grazing platter. Eventually, she began baking larger batches and boxing them up to give to friends and extended family. Along this journey Melinda adopted a vegan diet and so did her cookie boxes. And to her surprise most everyone agreed there was no detectable difference between her original cookies and her vegan cookies.


As she learned more about the benefits of a vegan lifestyle including the environmental impact, health advantages and freedoms from animal cruelty, it became apparent to her she wanted to share this lifestyle with her community and find a way to encourage others to explore this option as well. Why not start with dessert!?!


The vegan food market in general continues to develope into even more enjoyable cuisine. Gone are the grainy vegan cheeses from the 2000's, and the over salted black bean burgers of the 1990's. The flavorless crumbly tofu of the 1980's is still available to those of us who appreciate the nostalgia but is no longer the one and only option on the menu for vegans when eating at an omnivore restaurant. Modern vegan food is beautiful, uncompromising and delicious. You deserve it Santa Barbara and The Crumberie is here to deliver!
